Must I use only Westell 7500 modems furnished by Verizon?  The one I have is defective.  There are several new Westell 7500 modems on eBay.  Might I buy one of them (I can get it cheaper than from Verizon), replace the one that's broken, and configure using Verizon's home agent software?

You can use any modem you wish that supports the ADSL standard. When you receive the new modem, you truthfully don't even need to use the In-Home Agent software to configure the modem if it's a Verizon supported modem. All of the configuring work can be done via a web browser by visiting http://192.168.1.1/ .
