I purchased a new HP Pavilion desk top 4 days ago. I can connect to the MSN home page but if I click a link nothing. I cannot log into verizon.com or any other websites either. I am connected to a Westel 327w, which is probably 5 years old or more, could this be the problem? This new computer is connected by Ethernet cable, wireless access on other computers is working fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I am becoming very frustrated, tried to use DSL CD from Verizon but it is also old and outdated and will not work. HELP! Thanks Debra
Update the drivers for your Wired/Wireless adapter. A lot of new computers tend to have outdated drivers installed as a part of the image. Some people have reported that this has solved this particular issue, and this would be the way I would approach this problem, as I originally suggested when this problem first surfaced. People have also had luck with updating the firmware on their modem/router, and others have had luck with bridging their modems to another router or replacing the modem/router all together.
The best way to find updated Drivers is to Google the component that needs updating (eg; Realtec Gigabit NIC, Atheros BGN Adapter), and downloading the driver directly from the device manufacturer's website. Getting the driver from the PC Manufacturer often will result in the same old driver, or one that is slightly newer.
I had the EXACT problem happen---I even took back one HP thinking it was the computer--I had the same modem as well. After spending hours on the phone they figured out that the 327w was not compatible with Windows 7--they sent me a new modem (for free) and it solved the problem--no more issues....good luck.
