DSL speed and drop issue

I am currently sitting on a Verizon DSL plan of 1.5-3Mbps which has satisified me even its never reached 3Mbps(If i remember it correctly, I am supposed to get a download speed more 300K/S at 3Mbps, theoretically. Am I right?). Anyway, since last week, the speed got terribly low, and the DSL drops frequently for no reason so I have to reboot the modem again and agin.

The Speed I got from my gateway says

Speed(Down/Up)

352 Kbps / 352 Kbps

I checked with the broadband test on the website of Verizon, which gives me a 0.244Mbps. It is far below the internet package I am paying for, even below it used to be. In fact 352Kbps is the best one I have reached during those days, the worst one is ONLY 96Kbps plus random dropping.

I am using a Westell 7500, a wired desktop, no phone. The modem is connected to the wall jack and desktop directly.

It's not solved.

Due to the slooooow loading of the webpage, I hit the wrong button by accident.

Satanlnpanties

I have been having issues with my speeds dropping drastically as well-going on two weeks now-last I was told was this past Friday 4/8/2011 that by 4/10/2011 5pm the issue would be fixed-it supposedly was something at the central office here. I am still having the same issues with my download speeds going instantly from 2.294 to as low as 0.0034...web pages won't load, music won't play and my games (ffss)I also have another friend who lives apprx. 10 minutes away who also is having the smae issues. I am going to contact Verizon again today, for the fourth time and let them know the issue is still ongoing.

Thanks for sharing.

I think we are facing the same proble because it happened to me at the same time as you said. I talked with Verizon tech guys, and they just had me plug, unplug, reboot all the devices. The steps they had me do just do not work.

I am in Newark DE. I will try to see if other users of Verizon are suffering from the same situation.

We have replaced 2 Westell 7500  we are on our third  this has been going on for months.

They replaced all the wires  and we've done all they asked unplug this do that

they  had a tech to the house that told us we were paying for more speed then Verizon could supply to lower our bundle

that was their solution and it still drops off

I just want to stay connected to internet

I don't even have a wireless device we are wired to the PC

They gave us a credit for the last two months Now they are sending another guy out

Slower and still not connected?

I dont know if changing a modem will work in my case. I mean the Westell 7500 still "functions" but at a abnormal speed.

It is more likely something wrong in the Verizon end that limits the speed as its never worked faster than 352 Kbps for this period.

If the situation remains like this, maybe I need to consider switch to another ISP.

Your line is having a rather large noise issue, if you were obtaining 1.5Mbps/3Mbps speeds. If you have access to a NID, plug your modem into the test jack found inside of it and post up the new Transceiver Statisitics. If you don't have access to a NID, check the condition of all phone jacks in your home, making sure the connections in the back are free of corrosion and dust, as well as the jack's pins are free of corrosion and dust. It's also best to make sure nothing is shorting out or close to shorting. Lastly, check to make sure all devices on the line are filtered.

If you have voice service and hear noises such as static, humming or buzzing, please let me know. That will help us key into the noise issue on the line.

@ marjimlovallo: Post up your modem Transceiver Statistics and log in another thread in this forum. We can help you best that way.

@  Satanlnpanties: If your issue is occuring during the evening and night hours and disappearing in the morning/afternoon, there's more than likely some congested piece of equipment on Verizon's end that needs to be fixed or have load taken off of it.

Thanks for your reply!

I will try other wall jack tonight to see if it works better, and since I am living in a APT I have no access to the NID.

Another interesting thing I recalled is the problem usualy occured when it's raining outside.

I mean it used to be slow or drop before when it was raining, but after rebooting the modem, I got everything ok. There was only one time the speed turned back normally untill second morning.

This time, however, the speed has never come back since the raining evening more than one week ago 😛

By the way, I do not have voice service so I cannot tell if there are noises by hearing it. I do not have filter either, and the modem is connect into wall jack directly and the desktop is connected to the modem by cable directly too. Thats all.

That would probably be your problem then. In this case, you would need to have Verizon come out and find out where the moisture is getting into the line and correct it. Once they do, and they also find other faults on the line your statistics and speed should improve by a large amount.
