So I was about to pay my bill today and noticed that the figures did not add up. I have DSL service and Verizon just increased my monthly internet service another $5. They never informed me of this increase, and just went ahead and charged it. Can they do this? Isn't it good practice to inform costumers prior to upping prices? I am very offended.
If they do not credit back those charges and put me back on the rate I signed up, I will cancel my service, but will still demand my $5 back!
Has this happened to anyone else? Is it just a mistake?

This a four year+ old thread. I would start it as fresh. However the price increase is because your discounts fall off, or there is a general price increase. Both can happen.
if not in a contract then you can search around for better service. Or call the number on your invoice 1-800-VERIZON and play the let’s make a deal game.
I'd be willing to bet Verizon did notify you. However they have this bad habit of placing such notices in the middle of the standard boiler plate of the bill, so that if you don't carefully read the entire bill, you are almost guaranteed to miss it. I don't like the practice, but unfortunately it is common. If you don't have a contract, and it is a non-tariffed service (Internet services are non-tariffed), the supplier is pretty much free to alter the price at will.
Realistically your only recourse is to cancel.
I got rate increase even with contract. 20.00 a month.
Increase of $13.00 (lucky 13) for us. If they are trying to lose customers, it looks they are succeeding.
I went to pay my bill and I'm wondering why is it higher than normal and I noticed an increase on my Fios Internet service.
I too had my internet access fee increased by $5. Did not see any notice in previous bills. When I signed up for DSL I was told this rate would never increase. Was anyone else told this. This is a 33 1/3 % increase. A bit excessive.
I got the same increase, without notice....spent almost 30 minutes on the phone with customer service but to no avail...looks like we'll be canceling also......such a shame after being a "loyal customer" for 35 years!!

I gotta ask. Is this the only price increase you've had from all your other services in the last 35 years?
I am constantly seeing price increases these days and yes, it's worse than annoying. These increases take place despite the fact that inflation and corresponding interest rates are at historic lows. I don't even want to get into the fact that my Social Security was not increased for a few years because the available cash was shipped in paper bags to Afghanistan and Iraq. What's a (retired) working stiff supposed to do?
BTW, Verizon does not (repeat: NOT) increase fees without notification, even if from time to time we either do not notice it, forget we were notified, or something else happened. I know this is true from my own painful experience.
No, unfortunately, this is NOT the only increase I've received but all others were willing to work with me, being unemployed and no unemployment...Verizon has always been one of the ones that would help out in tough times...I've extremely disappointed in them.
and BTW, I DIDN'T RECEIVE ANY NOTICE, I'VE CHECKED OVER MY PAST BILLS AND THERE'S NOTHING ON ANY OF THEM !!
Have you checked your e-mail? When my DSL price went up by $5/m they notified me weeks before my billing cycle was supposed to lapse at the old price.
