Hello,
I am wondering if
Verizon FiOS ---coax--- ECB6200 Adapter ---RJ45--- own router ----- desktop works?
I have coax in my house. However, my own router only has RJ45, not coax. How to get my own router work without Verizon router? Is this a coax <----> RJ45 question? What is your recommendation? Thank you.
That will not work. The ECB6200 cannot get a WAN IP address from ONT. It has to be a router. ECB6200 works with MOCA on the LAN side of things.
You could call Verizon to switch your connection to Ethernet. Then run ethernet to your router.
If that's not feasible you can put a Verizon router in place first then ECB to your router.
Hi Edg1, I appreciate your prompt response and advice. Is there any device rather than a router I can place it between FiOS OMT and my own router? some layout like:
FiOS OMT <---coax---> device <---Ethernet--->Graphon router <---> PC
I am neither able to use Cat 5e cable from FiOS OMT, nor place Verizon router between OMT and my own router. Any other solutions? Thank you again,
Not that I know of. There has to be a router attached to the ONT to get a WAN IP address. Whether it is on ethernet or coax. Your router or Verizon’s.
What exactly is your set up? ONT outside? Basement?
