I recently had wireless internet set up for my apartment, we are using an ActionTec Router, my son and i have our own laptops and i want to be able to place limits on how long he can be on his computer and what sites he is able to access..i am not very computer literate so please explain in lame mans terms, much appreciated! thanks
p.s. i tried to install the Verizon "Family Protection" but it seemed like the limits were only for MY laptop... I want to control what my son sees on HIS laptop..Is there a way to configure the router so that if he brings a friend over and connects to our router, they will also blocked from certain sites?
try signing up for and using OpenDNS It's free and does exactly what you want to do, and is not complicated to set up. All you have to do is put the DNS numbers in your router, and then configure it from the opendns website. They offer a free version and a pay version, but the free version will let you do what you want.
Their DNS IP Addresses are
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
Here is a sample of the type of things you can filter.
What Modem/Router do you have (name and model number)
