I have DSL. Very erratic. Drops out while in the middle of reading emails, or on line paying bills. I complained to a phone person a couple of months ago, & it got magically fixed while on the phone, but now its back to crapola! I think they switch circuits between users. So one day I have good service & Joe Blow down the street has bad service. I'm tired of talking to these people. If I could find an alternate phone, wireless, & internet provider I'd be there in a flash!
Does your Voice Service by any chance have noise on it, especially during the times of your DSL disconnections? You'll need to get Verizon Voice Repair out to repair that if that noise is also present out at your NID. Posting up your modem's Transceiver Statistics would also help us understand what may be going on.
