Internet really slow

My internet is really slow, I am getting about 0.1 - 0.73 kb/s when I should be getting around 5 mb/s (Not megabits).

I want to DreamHost.com and here's my results are in the picture.image

DSL won't do 5MB/s unless you are on VDSL2 and have a reasonably short line. That is, unless you're bonding multiple 5Mbps connections into something that clocks 40Mbps!

I don't see anything immediately wrong with that trace. It looks pretty solid to me for going from Los Angeles, California to New Jersey. Does your speed improve during the morning hours or is it that bad during all times of the day?

Can you also provide your modem's Transceiver Statistics for me?

Me and my friend compared and we she didn't have the '***', she instantly finished. I dunno what a VDSL2 is, or 'bonding multiple 5 Mbps' is either. Why is it going from California all the way to New Jersey, shouldn't it be somewhere closer? And it doesn't imrpove in the morning at all, it's always bad. How do I get the modem's Transceiver Statistics? Sorry, I don't know that much internet stuff.

Open a web browser and go here http://192.168.1.1/htmlV/transtat.asp then copy/paste the Transceiver Statistics in your next post.

The Dreamhost looking glass server is hosted in California as that is where Dreamhost really has a majority of their servers. The server running that test is maintained by a DSLReports member who works there. So, if you're in the New Jersey area, it makes sense that the distance would be that long. There are looking glass servers nearer to you, but I do prefer that one since any web browser with Javascript support can use it. No need for Java or anything special.

JOSE above posted the link to the DSL Transceiver Statistics on newer Verizon modems such as the Westell 6100 and the Westell 7500. On ActionTecs, you need to visit http://192.168.1.1/ and choose the Status button on the top navigation, which will land you at the Transceiver Statistics. For older Westells or 327ws, you will need to use http://192.168.1.1/transtat.htm . These links only work if you are not behind your own router but are connected directly to a Verizon-supplied Router or modem.

If you need a username and password and have not set the modem up with one, try:

admin/password

admin/password1

admin/admin

admin/admin1

Your Verizon Username and password

I have a feeling this is a case of Juniperitus. But, we just need to make sure.

Heya,

Looks like we're still waiting for a moderator to approve of the image attachments you've posted. Once one of those images appears I'll see what needs to be done. If it does take forever, you can use an image hoster such as tinypic.com to upload the image. All I need is the link to the uploaded image afterwards.

OK, so I see you're at 864kbps down, 160kbps up. That's the 768kbps provisioning rate. I would double check with the MyVerizon website to see if you're on "High Speed Internet" or "High Speed Internet Enhanced."  If you're on the first, your speed should be 1184/448 respectively. If you're on High speed Internet Enhanced 864kbps/160kbps is inexcusably slow for that package.

It seems each ActionTec has a different GUI interface which is annoying, but not a problem. Try going to Connection Status or WAN status in that Status section. One of those pages should contain information such as Attenuation, SN Margin/Margin, the speed, and power levels. If you can provide that information to me, that would be great. Look around the modem for me if you could and when you find them, supply the screenshot or copy/paste of the statistics.
