Hi guys, just have a quick question.
My HSI modem came in the mail today, and I immediately hooked it up. However, I noticed that the DSL light is constantly blinking. Now I believe this means it is having trouble connecting or finding any DSL on the line, however the instructions I recieved from Verizon were to "plug in the modem to optimize your connection".
Granted, my service ready date is still 8 days away (I always seem to expect the worst, sorry) but if it's supposed to be optimizing my connection then why can't it find the DSL line? I don't have a landline phone so there's not really any way for me to check if I get a dial tone or anything (I just moved into a new rowhome), but I'm just a little concerned if everything is working correctly or if I should just chill out and wait.
Thanks in advance
Since you did not wait until the service date, yes that is normal.
As dslr pointed out above, the Service Ready date hasn't passed, though it is a known fact that Verizon does have the tendency to get the DSL online before such date. They activated me a day early believe it or not. But you are correct that the DSL light should not be flashing. It just means the modem is unable to find or negotiate a connection.
If the connection is still not working past the Service Ready date, locate your NID and see if it will connect there. If it fails to connect, a tech will need to see what is going on. If it works at the NID but fails to work in your home, it would be a wiring issue that needs to be addressed. Verizon will sort it out, but at a possible charge.
I'm not sure what NID stands for... Network ID?
