I too am having the same problem with the 6100 and WRT54GL. I just started the service yesterday - the day I received the 6100 and it took about an hour and a half to get the modem set up right and, like someone said, it was to a PC. When I asked about the router set up, support threw me to someone else who hung up. I put the router in the mix and no vP4 or vP6 connection - nothing but local. When I called VZ back, they said the modem and internet were good and they couldn't help me with the router and transferred me to some $$ service which I didn't opt for. First day - not so good.
I tried the learning room and couldn't get in - it kept putting me back at the start.
One would think that Verizon could at least put the required router settings up on their web site. Maybe Doug_VZ can help.
