Login to Actiontec MI424WR Router

I'm trying to logon to my Actiontec Router, but after going to http://192.168.1.1 and typing in admin then password, I get Login failed, please try again.  I've reset the router by using the button on the back.  Any other suggestion or password combo's out there that might work?

The password should be the serial number of the router. You can find it on a label on the router.

Originally Verizon used admin and password as the default after a reset, but someone created some hack documentation about how to get into many routers remotely that used the default login information, so Verizon changed the default password to be the serial number, thus making it unique for each router.

And don't be fooled by the extra characters displayed in the password field, that is just a lame method of hiding the password you are entering from the prying eyes of your spouse looking over your shoulder. Smiley Happy

If you've reset the router by pressing the button in the back, the router should prompt you for a new user name and password the first time you access it.

If you weren't prompted for a new user name and password, you probably did't hold the button in long enough.  You need to hold it in until all the lights on the router go out (10-15 seconds).

Sorry to revive a zombie thread. When I image

try to login after resetting the modem as described I see this box. I use admin and  the serial # Tyxxxxx and eventually am able to get in. Question is there a way to save the password (as I was able to do on a Westell 7500 or 6100)  as I was able to do when I had DSL. Thanks in advance, Josea

Whatever password you enter should be saved when you click OK.

If the password is not being saved, your router is bad.

thanks a lot  Anti-Phish, I was going nuts with this.. When the tech set it up he did not give me any manual(s) either. I did find it online eventually . Once I get this sorted, can you have more than 1 login to the router? (just curious)

The router supports multiple logins. I believe it has a limit of about 5 logins at once. Not positive but I know multiple logins was possible in older firmware builds at least.

Thanks Smith6612,  you are spot on, I eventually did find the dialog for multiple logins, 5 is default, 10 is max (wiht the MI424WR-Gen3I).  I set it to 1.

I don't recommend setting it to one.  If you were to close your browser without formally logging out of the router, you would not be able to get back in until the session timeout expires.
