I cannot access an OnDemand movie I rented on my computer because it says I do not have Microsoft Silverlight.  I have MS Silverlight - what gives?

Silverlight is an NPAPI Plug-in. If you're trying to use Google Chrome, Chrome dropped support for NPAPI almost a year ago. Browsers such as Firefox and Internet Explorer still support these, but IE is being phased out and Firefox is due to drop NPAPI support in March of 2017.

Try using Microsoft Edge if you run Windows 10.

MS Edge doesn't play either. Any other suggestions to correct the issue?

It's amazing a Microsoft product not working with a Microsoft browser?? Not really.

i would simply either get the DVD 12 software free version at http://download.cnet.com

Or this link.

http://download.cnet.com/CyberLink-PowerDVD/3000-13632_4-10352449.html

Its free to try but after a certain time you must purchase. I use it and it's great.

i paid about $80 for it but I don't know how much it costs now.

don't waste your time with a download purchase, opt for the DVDs or pick it up at Amazon or BestBuy where you can price match.

Good Luck

Let's not forget that Silverlight was meant to be a competitor to Adobe Flash. Both of which are dead now.

Anything still using Silverlight or Flash is a dead product in my mind. Even despite the issues around DRM extensions in HTML5.

Definitely dying.  Microsoft is not making it clear on their Silverlight site, but the product is Deprecated.  None of the new Browsers support it, and old ones are removing it.  The last version released ends support in 2021. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/search?alpha=Microsoft%20Silverlight

Adobe too has recently announced its plan to disable all Flash support in 2020.  https://blogs.adobe.com/conversations/2017/07/adobe-flash-update.html .

And yes this brings into question what these various Program providers and Verizon will do to replace their current video display support.  Currently all those I try on my PC use Flash for Authorization even if they use HTML5 for display.

Every other movie streaming service I have was able to adapt to the Silverlight support issue.  it's only Verizon, they continue to deny that this problem is isolated to them.  We haven't been able to stream purchased movies online since March 2016.

I've tried all of the browsers and I have a working version of MS Silverlight, but I still can't get shows to play from my library.  It keeps telling me I need to download MS Silverlight.

This is ABSOLUTELY an issue with Verizon!

No it is an issue with Microsoft since they are no longer supporting it. Just like Adobe with their players and programs. They retire them.

you can google that it is very much indeed not Verizon’s or charters or Comcast which just give you internet access, telephone & digital tv.

take the issue up with Microsoft.
