I hope Verizon Network will be able to increase all its speed tiers soon with the max going to 1 Gig / 1 Gig as 1 Gigabits are rolling out in other cities. Plus the rollout of 802.11 AC routers are allowing the usage of these speeds.
For this to be doable Verizon would need to start rolling XG-PON, to ensure the existing PONs don't end up overloaded. They can do 1Gbps over GPON right now, but that won't be pretty from an oversubscription standpoint. Fotunately, Verizon won't need to replace any Fiber! Just some ONTs and OLT cards.
On the flip side, 802.11ac routers are already here! The G1100 "Quantum" Gateway already does 802.11ac.
To me having IG Internet is like having a car that goes 200MPH.
Its great, but how can you use all that speed?
Unless your provider upgrades their backbone and connectivity to the Internet (and I am talking others as well as Verizon) you can't use that speed.
