My download speeds don't go above and beyond 2.0 mbps on the 7.1mbit plan that I am paying for. It's a big difference in terms of speed so it's a little fishy to me. Was wondering if anyone could help me out with this dilemma as I haven't a clue why the speeds are so slow.
Out of curiosity...have you reported to DSL customer service? What are they telling you?
The first thing I would suggest doing is checking the transceiver stats on the modem/router.
The speeds that show up there are the lower of either your provisioned speed (7.1mbps/768kbps) or the best speed your modem was able to negotiate with the Central Office. If that is somewhere near spec, the problem is your PC, not the connection. By the same token if you cannot get anywhere near the 7.1mpbs, it is time to call Verizon to find out why.
The 7.1mbps service comes with restrictions about how far you can be from the CO, so presumably length of the pair isn't an issue.
