My DSL speed question

I used to have Verizon DSL 1.1-3 mb and landline. I wanted to remove landline because it's useless to me. So I called Verizon, the agent told me canceling will not affect my DSL service at all.

However, after landline is canceled, my DSL got downgraded to the lowest 0.5-1.0 mb speed. What is this about?What should I do ?
