Some time after my 'Part II' post, the promised private support page became visible. I have begun the problem-resolution process there ... and will not post again here until the process is completed.
Because I -- the Original Poster -- am prevented by the system from responding to my earlier posts on this subject, I write this message as an update for you, i.e., those readers who are interested in my specific problem, or Verizon's high-speed DSL service in general. Not that it relates to my current problem, but my residential high-speed DSL is rock-solid, stable, and as consistent as the morning sunrise here in Arlington, VA.
24 hours per day, 7 days per week, I get at least 6.2 Mbit/sec (and never more than 6.5 Mbs) with nary a hiccup. My service tier is 'up to 7 Mbit/s' and my residence is more than 2,000 feet from the servicing Central Office. Pretty good for copper, in my belief. (I suspect that my consistent, high level of service benefits from our fairly thick residential density, and close proximity to lots of government and business activities.)
I hope to enjoy similar consistency while travelling, if not such bandwidth, once the activation-wizard problem for Verizon WiFi (http://www.verizon.com/wifi) is resolved.
