Original thread:  http://forums.verizon.com/t5/High-Speed-Internet-DSL-and-Dial/Repetitious-disconnections-from-MMO/td...

It has been about three weeks since this problem began, listed in the above post (all statistics in the router are still the same).  I originally trumped it up to traffic shaping on Verizon's end, but everyone knows what happens when you make assumptions.  Regardless, I refused to simply give up a game that I've been playing for five years.  So after some ping tracking using two different programs I have witnessed up to 100% packet loss from my Westell 7500 (modem/router combo) to my ISP server located in NW, PA.  This packet loss only lasts about 10 seconds; it creeps up from 20% to 100%, hangs there, and then drops back down.

Before I have a tech come check out the lines, I would like to know if there is a way to turn the Westell 7500 into a modem disabling the routing capabilities.  I have an old Linksys 54G that has been very reliable throughout the years that I would like to try out, to rule out the router included in the combo.  I have done some research on these forums, and both of my attempts to do this have ended with having to do a factory reset on the Westell 7500.  On my last attempt, I got the Linksys to automatically pull DNS IP's from the modem... but had no internet connection.  Then after doing a factory reset, it takes the Westell 7500 about 30-40 minutes to pull an actual internet connection, but the DSL has no trouble connecting.

The connection to the house is a "routed bridge," so is this even possible?

Would it help to list how I attempted to set this up?

Thank you for your reply!

Oddly, YES the first hop from my house does happen to be Erie, PA!

It is unfortunate, but I'm relieved to hear that others are experiencing this problem also.

Thanks for the instruction, I'll try your set up method.  I can always do a hard reset if I fail again; though I am beginning to suspect that bypassing the router will have little to no effect.  If it does, I'll be sure to post and let you know!

Hi just noticed your posted. Your problem seems close to mine and a few others. We have been trying to get help in this theard http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r25302447-connectivity-Getting-time-outs-pauses-every-2-3-minutes. It also started around the same time. I don't play WOW but I have been having lots of trouble with games on xbox live. Same packet loss also. I live in Erie not sure how close you are to there but I have heard others in this area having problems even a few in Waterford. I keep reopening a ticket for this issue calling verzion hasn't been any help still no closer to it being fixed they don't know whats wrong. They just sent me a new modem that didn't help. I have also had someone out to the house to check the line also didn't help any. If you want to use your Linksys you will need to set up the Westell 7500 into bridge mode.

Bridge modem.
1.Open browser (IE) type 192.168.1.1
2.user: admin password: password
3.Select My network  select Newtowrk connection (to the left )
4.Broadband connection ( select the tab under action )
5.Look under Vc’s select the tab under edit column. ( to the right )
6.Under Protocol: Set to bridge
7.Bridge Mode: bridge.

Turn off DHCP
1.network connection
2.Lan
3.private lan the first one.
Uncheck the first option under DHCP.

Also you want to shut off wireless

Hope that helps for that part of the question but if your having the same problem as the rest of us. It's on Verizons end and most likely won't be fixed till they figure out whats wrong. I few of us have been calling for about 3 weeks trying to get it fixed.

Hey guys. Just want you to know that I'm having the same problem with being able to play on XBox Live. I can use the internet fine but losing the connection for even 10 seconds makes playing game online impossible.

I have the Fios internet plan, Very good down/up and ping times, but regardless of port forwarding or DMZ hosting, I lose connection. I have a Westell Router and run the xbox on a wired connection. I'm in Texas and the first hop is in Dallas, I believe.

I have tried just about everything. I have searched and searched the internet and have had no luck trying everything.  I think Verizon is going to send me a new router, as they have already attempted to update my current router. I will keep you posted on my status.

Thanks for taking the time to let me know I'm not the only one out there with this problem!

I made an account on http://www.dslreports.com/ and used the Verizon Direct section of their forums to solve my issue.  If you're getting tired of speaking to an outsourced tech support guy, whose third language is English then I suggest posting there to get your issue resolved.

It took a day for them to collect my info and submit a ticket; the next day they assigned me a new IP Gateway and all is resolved.
