Router rental 20% increase this month?

Seeing my router has gone from $10 a month to $12? 

Anyone else experience this issue? Still using the same router as before.

This raise was discussed in other forums. It was speculative as to if it was going to be $12 or $13 but I see it’s $12.

this is a material change if you have a contract. Call Verizon and tell them their terms of service state if you don’t agree to the material change you can leave Fios with no penalty. They should at that point revert it back to the $10 rental for duration of contract.

is it really worth $288 increase for two years, to lose hundreds a month or thousands a year? You can also bring up that contract material change to your states Public Utilities Commission or Public Service Commission and they can work for you.

only governmental taxes are not a material change. Anything Verizon adds on or raises under their surcharges and fees is grounds to break your contract.

Alas month to month have no recourse to either stay, buy your own router and return theirs or simply threaten to leave for another competitor.

cable is the same way with raising rates. But charter does not charge a rental on their modems. It’s built into the price structure.

Contract only covers service costs.

It does not guarantee hardware (routers, stbs) nor does it cover fees.

Here are the exact words from the TOS:

Fios TV Equipment and Other Devices are priced separately from the price of the Service or Bundled Services plan, and may not be subject to the price protection applicable to the Service or Bundled Services plan in a term agreement or promotional offer

Only taxes from the state taxing authority is legitimate. Not verizons creative fees.

FCC has given cable providers to pass along any taxes levied on them for services.

And Verizon (along with other cable providers) have opted for localized fees for things like rebroadcast fees they have to pay for local channels and regional sports.

Makes it much easier than trying to figure out those costs and come up with an average across all users.

Plus for RSN fees, this allows them to drop them if you don't subscribe to sports channels.

The fees not mandated by local government regulations are “fluff bogus fees” which is being done by Verizon and cable companies.  Upping them during a customers contract is a material change to the subscribers services. The associated fees like regional sports etc. can be avoided by simply not having tv service. Use streaming tv which has no taxes or fees. And same for phone services. The fees and taxes added on make phone not worth it. You can get a VoIP phone service and most if not all taxes and bogus land line fees disappear.
