I have had Verizon DSL service since 2004. Over the years the line speed has slowed until it is not much faster than the 56kb service I replaced. Very often a web page will time out when linked from a previous page. Reloading does not solve the problem. I have resorted to turning off the modem and back on again. One thing I have noticed. If I am on the web between 11am and noon, the line speed slows drastically around noon. I suspect that internet traffic increases at that time. I have upgraded to the Enhanced DSL Service, paid the extra cost, and see no difference in line speed. Would love to have the FOIS servce that Verizon promotes so widely but don't expect it in my area within my lifetime. I think Verizon has oversold the DSL service and does not have the infrastruction to handle all their customers with the service that they promote. I am looking into Cox Cable, the only alternative in my area. Verizon DSL service SUCKS.
Ii also have the same problem. I have had 3mb package for about 6 years and the past 10 months its slower then 56k durning peak times. I sent a email and was contacted by the escalations office and worked with them for 3 weeks. I had data from every hour and proved without a doubt that it slows down during peak times. they finally got to the point that the networking dept would not even look at my ticket. They over sold the bandwith and any human alive could figure that out.But they still will not admit it. They finally close my tickets and said they would not do anything about it.
Step one: Visit http://www.giganews.com/line_info.html and post up the Traceroute the page shows, if you wish. Be aware that your non-bogan public IP Address will show up. It might shown up as the final hop (bottom-most line of the trace) might contain a hop with your IP address in it. Either remove that line or show only the first two octets. What I'm looking for is a line that mentions "ERX" in it's name towards the end. If for some reason the trace does not complete (two lines full of Stars), keep the trace route intact.
