Volunteers are needed to help with testing and measuring of internet performance in America.
The purpose of this project is to provide customers with additional information about internet performance. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is sponsoring this project, which will cover many aspects of an internet connection, from the speed of downloading a large file to the quality of video streaming. If you're interested, you can review the FCC's most recent report.
Want to help? Sign up now. If you are selected, the FCC's contractor for this project, SamKnows, will send you a "Whitebox" measuring device to install in your home.
Thanks for your time.
SamKnows is a valid government program, and those links you've provided are also valid. The SamKnows program provides the FCC with insight as to the type of broadband performance you're receiving, and how reliable it is against the rest of the country. It also contributes data which can allow them to gauge the effects of regulations, implement new regulations (or otherwise remove), and it provides you with insight of thi data, and ammunition to use against the ISP if the service is not being delivered as it should.
