I am in VA, just outside DC. I have a 50/50 fiber connection. NO tv services. Just internet.
Every night. I mean E V E R Y N I G H T my speeds drop to an unbareable 6mb down from 8-11PM. I have to steam all my YT videos at 480p.
I know I am being throttled. I check 4 different speed test websites and they all read less than 10mb down.
I check Verizons speed test tool on this website? 50/50. That makes NO sense. Verizon is letting that data through so it looks solid. It's the only thing that does make sense. It's the only speed test that will read true speeds during this time. The ONLY one.
After 11pm or so est I will be back up to normal.
It's like clockwork. And it looks shady.

Switch to the YouTube HTML5 Video Player
And also what browser are you using? Chrome Opera and Firefox all have extensions that fix that kind of late night buffering,

It's against their TOS and they specifically as a matter of their terms of service that they do not throttle.
What we mostly find that it's just the good ol internet working as it works and has worked for DECADES.
Picture this. everything works great during the day, at night, everything still pretty much works, meaning you're getting good speeds and you can download rather quick, but you're favorite site is all of a sudden slow.
Guess what, it's normally just the site and how they manage their bandwidth during their peak hours.
if other sites are working well, and you can go to hulu for example and it works well, or you can go to prime and it works well, or even Netflix and it works well, then that's a pretty sure fire sign that the site you're going to is simply ignoring what everyone else is doing, and their users are suffereing for it.
If every download service and and video service turns to crap, then you have a reason to start digging deeper, meaning running win mtr's and packet inspections, etc....
You can also try alternate DNS's or even VPN's (all those browsers have vpn extensions) if you pick a DNS/VPN that fools youtube cdn's into thinking that you're on the west coast or a part of the world where they haven't hit a peak user rate (timezone related), and then your streaming turns to gold, then bingo, you found the problem and it's not with VZ in that scenario, it's with the site, sending you to CDN servers that are getting overloaded.

Todays tests:
12:38PM
17ms ping
58 down
35 up
8:50PM
30ms ping
6 down
23 up
Like I said. Just like clockwork. Today, (and I expect ) tommorrow and the next day. In 2 hours my speeds will be right back up where they should be. And it's not just an app like YT, it's my entire connection.
I've also tried 2 different routers and 3 different DNS servers.
I'll just keep fiddling with stuff and see if I can figure out a solution. Thanks for the replies all.

While this is clearly not a problem with your router or PC, given that it consistently fails during peak usage time, simplify and test over a wired connection. You should do that anytime you have an issue.
There is not much you can do other than to keep calling and escalating with FIOS. This forum and others have numerous similair complaints about how things are working great until peak usage time at night. FIOS needs to add a few lanes to its expressway.

I had the exactly same problem as yours. I just posted a message to this forum, then I saw your message. I become more suspicious that the problem is from Verizon..

Same problem here! I did a post on this as well: http://forums.verizon.com/t5/FiOS-Internet/Another-Fios-internet-slow-at-night-thread-between-5pm-12...
There are countless people having the same issue across the country. It's clearly being done on purpose. I'm thinkging about switching to another ISP with a higer speed and the same price. Has anyone else consider switching?
