This subject has been discussed many times.

You own the router.  VZ does not automatically upgrade customer owned equipment.

At some point you may be able to order one. If Verizon handles this the same way they have handled the QIP7232 DVR upgrade, you will have to pay for the honor, although probably not a lot of money.

At the moment, most of the Rev G routers are going to customers who elect the 150/35mbps FiOS service, since they need the Gigabit Ethernet that these routers have. There are also reports that some new FiOS customers are ending up with Rev G router. If you router fails, it is luck of the draw what you get as a replacement, and the odds do not favor a Rev G. Verizon will continue to use the older routers until they either fail, or some external event forces their retirement. Consider how many FiOS TV DVR customers still have QIP6416 DVR's!

At this point you are probably better off to simply bite the bullet and just buy an 802.11n wireless access point. It isn't like these things are incredibly expensive, they are not. Ideally you want a dual band unit, and ideally the device you want to connect via wireless is also dual band capable. Operation in the 5Ghz band tends to provide better performance because there is more 'real estate', and few users.
