I currently have 75 mb internet and want to upgrade to 1 gb and was curious as to what the technician would have to do in my home for the upgrade?
Possibly upgrade the ONT depending on your current model. Run cat 6 to router and upgrade the router.
I just had this done. The tech will remove the old backup battery system (Verizon no longer uses these according to him) on the inside, then go outside to the ONT. In my case he replaced some of the electronics inside. (Before the electronics were screwed down in the right-hand side of the ONT box, now there's just a little black box with fiber in and phone, cable, and ethernet out that's just kind of propped up in there--looks really kludgey.) Then he ran an ethernet cable from the ONT into the house and to the router. So if you're asking what you need to provide access to, the tech will need to be able to get to the ONT on the outside, the power to the ONT on the inside, and have a path to run ethernet all the way to your new router.
