VPN Disaster

Hello,
I'll try to be brief. I want to set up a home VPN so that I can connect to my home network from away. The easiest way to do this is using a router that has a VPN built in. I have one and set it up, but hit a snag. Since I have Fios TV, the Verizon router is necessary for some TV services.

In order for the VPN to work, it has to be the primary router connected to the ONT. When I connect it to the ONT, and connect the Fios router behind that, everything works, but remote DVR management/viewing does not. If I put the Fios router as primary (connected to ONT via Ethernet and coax with VPN router behind it LAN to WAN) the VPN does not work since incoming traffic from Dynamic DNS hits Fios router login screen, and is not "passed through" to the VPN router.

The Verizon router seems to have this insistence on being primary. It is the G110 router

My set up follows these instructions: http://www.dslreports.com/faq/15992

Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks!
