Verizon DSL unresponsive

For the last two weeks, my DSL has been extremely slow to respond. Once a connection is made however, it works as quick as always and my DSLReports speed tests are just as quick after the second try and subsequent trys. This is through my router as well as plugged directly into my modem. The only other device plugged into my phone line is filtered. Has Verizon done anything in the Western Mass mid August? Any ongoing issues?
BTW, it would be nice if Verizon would add an email for "Contact us" instead of having us jump through hoops to get in touch with someone.
