Verizon Wi-Fi Small Business Center

Hello all:

I've been trying to install wi-fi on my laptop but it does not work.  I am under the package of small business and the sale representative said three months ago that I would be able to install wi-fi on my laptop by downloading an application to my laptop for verizon wi-fi configuration. So, I decided to download, the application in my Account widget, which says "Congratulations, you are eligible for Verizon Wi-Fi Service". I followed the instructions and clicked on the link which bought me to "Installing Verizon Registration Software". As instructed, I ran the download and on my desktop, there is a message that says "Resume Wi-Fi installation." When I run the icon, it says this may take 30 seconds, and I always get the following "Troubleshooting: Could Not Connect to the Network."  I turned off my firewalls, I am on my administrator account and my modem is on. 

What's strange is that when I called the Wi-Fi technical support, they told me that I needed a router, but online the FAQ instructions says: "If you have a wireless-enabled laptop or netbook, no additional equipment is needed to use Verizon's Wi-Fi service. As long as the software is downloaded to your laptop or netbook, you will have full access to the service. If you do not have a wireless-enabled laptop or netbook, you will need to purchase a wireless card and plug it into your computer." I am running on Toshiba laptop, with wireless capabilities working under windows vista.  This laptop is new - I bought it one year ago, so I know that wireless is not a problem here. I was given a 6100 Westell Modem for the landline internet.  

Any help or explanation will be most appreciated.

Additionally, this isn't FIO internet, just high speed internet for small business.

#1 To use that Wi-Fi service that you are signed up for, you must be near a Wi-Fi Hot Spot that is powered by the Verizon Wi-Fi Service.

#2 Otherwise, you must have a Wi-Fi Router.

#3 About Wi-Fi Router but not a Wi-Fi Hot Spot that is powered by the Verizon Wi-Fi Service:

a) it does not have to be a modem combo. It could be a RJ-45 WAN port router.

b) If you use your own RJ-45 WAN port router with your Westell 6100 from Verizon, I would suggest following the info at

What is the exact model of that Westell 6100?

The exact modem is G90-610015-20.

That might mean I have to order a router from Verizon with extra cost, correct?

Any particular reason they did not give you a wireless router/DSL gateway for free? (Actiontec)

No.

I am not saying which RJ-45 WAN port router to get OR where to shop, but for example...
