Verizon's Gig connection

We've had this service for months now and never got close to 900 MB. Connected a personal server, laptop and game console. Not a single device had over 400 MB, reboot the router same thing... Call Verizon, everything looks fine from our end... You have to use our speed test to get accurate results, PLEASE explain to me why we have to use VERIZON'S speed test when others ie. Cogent doesnt require a test to be preformed on their local servers. You fluff your numbers and sucker your customers...

The ISP Speed test is preferred, because it allows for them to gauge whether the problem is local to your network or local to your area. If the speed test server on the ISP network tests good but everything else works slower, it's possible you'e dealing with peering points being less than optimal or congestion out on the Internet.

Now the difference between FiOS and Fiber from Cogent is the Cogent connection is going to likely come with some sort of SLA. FiOS is more of a residential offering, hence the extensive "Up to" language that it comes with.

Are you also using Verizon's DNS Servers or have you chosen your own? Changing DNS may help you with getting better speeds to popular services that rely on a large CDN network like Akamai or Limelight. It's not a guarantee, but it could be possible that Verizon's DNS servers are directing you to on-network resources which are slower, or are further away from you than they should be.
