I used to have DSL , speed was in the range of 1.5mbps-3mpbs.
For four months, the internet were working perfectly fine, until 2 weeks ago.
My internet been constantly losing connection, up to like 50 times a day.
I called for help and Verizon sent a technician over and the technician said that the speed was too fast or whatever, which is the cause of me losing connections constantly.
so he told me to call and lower my speed to the next level, which is around 0.9mbps-1.5mbps..
Its been like 6hours since I lowered my internet connection, the speed might be the cause of me losing connection constantly. But this speed is too slow for me.. My brother often uses a application that slows the network down. With the old speed, i seem to work okay even when he is runnining the app, but now, the speed goes down as low as 0.10mbps when he is running the app..The average speed for me now is around 1.3mbps..
My friend who has Comcast told me her average speed is 17.8mbps...
I thought of canceling my internet, but I signed 1 year contract with Verizon, which still has around 8 months remaining.
Is there any ways for me to bring my internet back up to 1.5-3mbps without losing connection all the time? It had been working for 4 months.. how come it suddenly dosent work anymore??
#1 Please show the Transceiver Statistics from the DSL modem.
#2 If you do not know where / how to find them, then answer these questions.
a) What is the brand and model of your DSL modem?
b) What is the brand and model of your router?
c) What is your OS and Version? For example, Windows XP SP3.
a) What is the brand and model of your DSL modem?

#1 Try to go to http://192.168.1.1/ .
#2 Then Choose Troubleshooting, and then click Transceiver Statistics.
#3 If Troubleshooting does not exist try go to System Monitoring, Advanced Monitors, and then choose Transceiver statistics. Post up the information you see on that page.
#4 If you are prompted for a Username and Password, try one of the following:
admin/password
admin/password1

To figure out what version of Windows you are using (if you are using Windows)
#1 There are some sample screens shots of some using Windows Vista at
a) http://oit.ncsu.edu/resnet/vista
#2 Notice the "globe" in the lower left hand corner.
#3 I heard/read that Windows 7 also has a globe in the same location.
#4 If using Windows but not using Vista or 7, instead of a "globe" there is a start button.
#5 If using Windows click the Start button (or click the Globe), go to Run (OR get the command prompt), then type in winver and press enter. This tells you what Version of Windows you have.

Ok, I can try it this way for you...
#1 My network is setup like this...
a) Phone Line -> Westell 6100F(+power) -> Linksys WRT54G(+power).
b) Besides a power supply and my Westell connected to my Linksys, I have four computers connected by wire.
#2 What do you have connected to your Westell besides the phone line and a power line, by wire (if anything) ?
