Very Poor Connection to World of Warcraft servers

Hello out there,

I have recently restarted my WOW account and now am being faced with latency issues that are impossible to play with.  I used to play about 2 years ago and never had this issue before.  I have tried everything on my end to fix this (hardware reboots,  port forwarding, deleting port forwarding,  disabling AV software, firewalls,  the list goes on and on) all with no result.

I believe this issue is in the traceroute that I ran while in a very high latency situation in game.  The results are as follows:

The thing is I know that all the 300+ ms hops are way to high, however I do not know how to fix that.  Any help would be greatly appriciated!!

Thanks So much for your time!

Ok,  so a quick update.

Just ran another traceroute and this one is even worse.....

Those don't look like official Blizzard servers to me. TOTBB is a Thailand Telecom company and what you're hitting is someone's connection. Are you sure you have the correct IP address for Blizzard's servers and are not instead playing on a Private server or going through a proxy?

Blizzard's servers are all found on AT&T's network, and as such you should be hopping onto AT&T's network in New Jersey or in New York City, and from there hitting the BattleNet East Coast servers, not going from Newark, New Jersey to Los Angeles, CA (Internet Exchange) to Thailand.

certainly not on a private server.  I got the ip address from them right off of WowWikia server datacenter info.  I play on Norganna (PVE) realm.

I was wondering the same thing though because the server name was supposed to have attens in it somewhere and I didnt see it there.

I guess I need to do some more digging for a bit.  Thanks for the reply!

Sounds good. Definitely check for anything proxy related. That could include Tor, or Hotspot Shield if you have ever used that before. On Verizon, here's what a trace to that specific realm should look like:

Tracing route to 199.107.6.168 over a maximum of 30 hops

As Blizzard doesn't allow ICMP Echo into their server network, that's as far as you'll really get.

I did not realize that the "."'s in the ip mattered that much.  When I put them in this is what I get:

Thanks for your help!!

You're welcome! 🙂

What's interesting is the fact that 1991076168 even resolved for you. Hmm. Maybe Verizon's DNS servers if you're using them are that weird. Oh well I guess 😕
