This router seems too slow to handle streaming movies on this TV. The TV has 3D and Blu-Ray capability.
Should I get a new router/modem? I use a dedicated DSL connection. We have two computers connected to our network, plus the TV. thanks.
The Westell 7500 is fast enough to handle streaming. The issue may be more with the provided speed you're getting or load/congestion elsewhere. Right now we just need to get some additional information.
1: What connection speed/package are you subscribed to?
2: Visit http://192.168.1.1/ and tell me the DSL speed it indicates on the Left side of the page.
3: Run a Speed Test from either http://speedtest.verizon.net or http://www.speedtest.net and post up the results you get. If you have both Wired and Wireless PCs, run a test from both.
4: Tell us what app you are using on the TV to stream content from
5: How is the PC connected to the router? Wired or Wirelessly?
I have a vizio smart tv and when I connected it, it said my connection may be slow. Do I or should I get a new router to correct that problem as I am generally connected at 54.0 Mbps. I ran the test and it says I connect at 1181Kbps/445 Kbps. I am wodering if I am achieving the maximum speed with this router or if it would truly be benefitial to invest in a new router? I am quite uneducated when it comes to this stuff.
I do not want to *upgrade* to FiOS because of the cost so please do not try and sell that to me.

That is a 1Mbps connection. 1Mbps is a small amount of bandwidth, and will usually barely get by with standard definition streaming. While Netflix may perform better in the morning hours, that is a signal of congestion. If it's bad all of the time, you're likely going to want to consider upgrading to a higher speed on the DSL, or FiOS (Verizon has a hidden 5Mbps/2Mbps tier that costs around $30).
