I would just throw it out. A auto garage or waste center will also take it.
google place to return batteries.
Doubtful. But any of the major box box stores will.
Or if you have a battery wharehouse store nearby.
Don't toss them in garbage as hazardous waste.

Amazingly not tossing them just in the garbage make great sense. However localities just don’t want them either.
Growing up my parents like myself used A-AAA-D-C And 9 volt batteries for everything.
we just tossed them out.
by the time you find any place to take them you are all worn out.
in our landfill there is a bin for such things. However they charge a fee above and beyond what residents pay for trash and recycling each week.
so like I said “throw them out” yourself. Or google a place nearby that will accept them.
you would think the companies that sell the batteries would give you a way to return the old ones. They did for years on toner cartridges.
ever changing world.
I assume OP was refering to lead acid backup battery.
And unless there is not one close by, most box box stores (Home Depot, Lowes) have a recycle bin at their store.
