What to do with Action Tec thingie?

Ok, I want to thank Verizon for accepting a new 24 mo contract and sending me a piece of equipment whose purpose eludes me. I thought I was to get a new super hi-speed router/modem when it seems this WCB5200Q is not. What do I do with it? Asked my wife and you know what she said. What is its function? It needs a coax and has two RJ45 ethernet ports. Is it a signal booster requiring a coax connection? Seems a Rube Goldberg???

I believe it is a coaxial cable to ethernet adapter. It allows you to use existing coaxial infrastructure to connect computers and so forth without having to run ethernet cable or rely on WiFi.
