I only have Fios Internet, and no landline so I don't want the battery connected in the BBU. I understand BBU needs to stay plugged into the wall outlet to provide the power to ONT. When I disconnect the battery in BBU, the red light for Replace Battery comes on on the BBU. Is this normal? Is it safe to have the BBU plugged into the wall outlet and keep using the Internet with this Replace Battery red light on?

Verizon has a how to see link above. You can remove the battery completely and the power cord still supplies power to the ont.
in the newer power reserve units the use is via an on off switch, or customers can just remove the d cell batteries completely.
I followed the steps at https://www.verizon.com/support/consumer/battery-backup/backup-unit and removed the battery completely which is down to step 4, and since I'm not installing a new battery, I proceeded to steps 8 as instructed, and plugged BBU back into the wall outlet, and Replace Battery red light still comes on. So I'm not sure if this is normal or ok. I reconnected the battery and System Status green light is back on. BBU is about 5 years old. Am I just stuck with keep the battery in the BBU in spite of not having landline voice service? Can anyone advise?
The red indicatior is just a warning light, and shouldn't impact the performance.
You can safely ignore this light.

Just do as I said. Don’t worry about lights. If the color bothers you, just put black electrical tape over it. It will not affect your internet only service. 😀
