Will SON work with a FiOS Quantum Gateway and a 3rd party access point?

I've got a FiOS Quantum Gateway router, but I also use a 3rd party access point (UniFi) with it.  Will SON work, or should I not bother enabling it?

If you are using a secondary wifi then the Quantum Gateway wifi should be turned off completely.
