low dsl speed

I have the enhanced dsl internet package which says I should have speeds from 3.1 to 7 mbps. Typically I only get around 1.8 mbps download and around 0.78 mbps upload speeds.

 I am currently using a 54 mbps wireless ADSL2+ modem router Netgear model DG834G v2. Is there any possible way of getting the actual speeds that I am being charged for having?

Step one: Visit http://www.giganews.com/line_info.html and post up the Traceroute the page shows, if you wish. Be aware that your non-bogan public IP Address will show up.  It might shown up as the final hop (bottom-most line of the trace)  might contain a hop with your IP address in it. Either remove that line or show only the first two octets. What I'm looking for is a line that mentions "ERX" in it's name towards the end. If for some reason the trace does not complete (two lines full of Stars), keep the trace route intact.

Step two: Can you provide the Transceiver Statistics from your modem?

When you look for the transceiver Statistics, this text gives to you an idea of what to look for:

Line Mode, Data Path:, transceiver Information Down Stream Path Up Stream Path, DSL Speed (Kbits/Sec), Margin (dB), Line Attenuation (dB), and Transmit Power (dBm).

Your circuit is "Optimized" but has room for more speed.

Please ask the support reps to give you the max possible speed your line, and the Verizon equipment can handle. I would suspect the cap to hit at 5Mbps (*maybe* 7.1Mbps) with those stats. If they have to re-quality for curcuit for higher speed, so be it.
