Much of that information can be found on the device's respective website. In regards to connectivity it varies based on which model you buy. 3G and 4G connectivity (do they even have a 4G model?) is really meant for on the go travel, should you be using the e-Reader a ton while traveling where Wi-Fi access is not guaranteed. It involves activation through a particular carrier, which is outlines when the device is received/purchased. Apparently 3G access on the Kindle is free since it is paid by Amazon. The Nook does not have 3G available, nor does the KoBo seem to have it.

Since you already have DSL in your home, you can use Wi-Fi to connect to the DSL. If you don't already have a Wireless router and are using the basic modem from Verizon, we can deal with that when the time comes. Once the e-Readers are turned on, they will probably ask for activation at which time they will need Internet access through Wi-Fi. From there, it's really a matter of selecting which books you wish to download from the device's store.
