Verizon is stealing my router!

I switched to Fios years a go. With that I was given a free router! Nice deal, worked well. Nothing on any of my past statements saying that the router was rented or that there was a discount being applied to make the router free. Original deal was that the router was mine.
Now I have to renew my agreement. This comes with a router that I can rent for $13/month. It's the same exact router, part number and all, that I already have. They won't remove it from the bill, so I'm paying for something I don't want or need.
But wait, there's more. If I don't send back the router that I own, they are going to charge me $100 for it. **bleep**!
How do I get this resolved? I have tried talking and emailing to no effect.
