I Tried what was suggested and it is still there. my home page reads "http://search.bearshare.com/". I D/L Verizon Security Suite to hopefuly take care of the problem, but hasnt found anything. im puzzled as to what to do. o.. IE is Fine.. it never changed but FireFox.
has.. i have done research to see what others say but they to are somewhat perplexed by it.. it was even explained in detail that its some copy of some program of something to do something. i dont know.

i guess ill call if nno ohter suggestions are thought up. lol.. Thanx . ill be checking in to see if anything new has shown up.

Dont know if you want to try this but it is something I would try. Go in and do a system restore to a point prior to installing bearshare. may or may not work but it may be worth a try
start/programs/accessories/systemtools/system restore (win xp)
another possibility, try removing the VISS and installing the free version of AVG and do a scan with it. see if another AV program might spot it. Probably not as most AV programs use the same definitions but it may be worth a try.

I am with CharlesH regarding priracy. You stand a good chance of being prosecuted and paying mega bucks. It's not worth it. Not to mention the problems you have found for yourself. Try SpyBot Search and Destroy from Safer-Networking. If your machine is really hosed, you may need to run it from safe mode.
