DSL and Fios is not available in our area. What can we buy that will speed up our internet on our desk top? This dial up is a real drag.

Check the VZ 4g Coverage map. 

if it's available - then that is the best option for you.

If it's not then you can always go with a 3g MiFi

you're truly best option is Verizon FiOS or DSL but if it's not available then the above might be decent enough, especially if you're in a 4g area.

Also check your states community map.  Most states have fiber construction schedules and you can see if you are on it.
