Hi, We used *69 once and got charged 7 times. I'm told that the directory assistance is a separate company and to call them. Isn't *69 a Verizon product?

you should know which  telephone company is your primary carrier, for example, time warner cable, verizon, sprint, RCN , etc.  May be you used 7 times for *69,   call which telephone landline company to charge 7 times. do not use *69 if it you want it, may be charge much money.
