911 call location

If you call 911 and are unable to tell them where you are, do they have a way to quickly locate you.  We have a 1 year old son with heart disease and we are trying to decide about using Verizon as our only phone.  Any help would be appreciated.

As a paramedic and county dispatcher in PA.  We cannot trace or otherwise track anything but standard telephone service.  We cannot do comcast, vonage etc.  Also they do not always send you to the nearest 911 center in your area.  For example your 911 call can be routed to california.  With Cell phones you should be fine but i would check with the local 911 center by calling the nonemergency number and asking.  Also if you are a family that has an existing medical condition atleast in our area we like that infomation so if we get a hang up we know that a medical unit with a high level of staffing is needed.
