Disconnected land line??

I was in the middle of a call and my landline disconnected. Now I have no more phone. Whenever I dial my number, it goes to voicemail. However I do not have voice mail set up (I have an answering machine directly on the phone). I try to set up the voicemail from the website and it says my number is not in service.

I'm getting irritated. I am looking for work and I need my landline. Does anyone know what I can do? I try to diagnose the problem on the website, and it does absolutely nothing. I switched over from Comcast to Verizon because it was a cheaper service. I'm starting to see why it's cheaper!
