FIOS changed my phone number

When I ordered FIOS, I asked the order taker to make sure that I could keep my old POTS number. He assured me 3 different times that would be ok .. yesterday, I got FIOS installed, and my number is no longer the one I have had for 12 years. I want it back.
Where do I start - FIOS customer service, or POTS customer service, or do I just go back to my cable company ??
