Issue with local v-mail recording off hook signal and phone not disconnecting

Hi all,

First post.

My local V-mail system picks up when no one is home. Since telemarketers hang up when a v-mail is detected, the system should simply hang up. It doesn't. I get an off hook indication instead which my V-mail records till it times out. Then the phone itself goes into shriek mode. Scares the heck out of the poor dogs This started about 5 weeks ago and is very annoying since even my alarm system can't get a line. I'm permanently off hook till I tip the line. Tech support says they have never heard of this before.

Phone system is a Siemens 2 line gigaset 8825. It picks up on the 4th ring. Verizon's system v-mail picks up on the 6th ring so I get both should I chose to ignore an incoming while on the line.

Anyone got any thoughts?
