Does anyone know how I can keep my current phone #? I currently have verizon lifeline and have had the same # for over 10 years. Now that I want wireless internet from FIOS they are telling me i cannot keep my old #. The problem is my 10 year old daughter is autistic and it took her a long time to memorize our # and getting a new # now would be very hard! Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!
It might have something to do with "lifeline" service, but I'm just guessing.
If you're not moving, I'm surprised that you can't keep you phone number. I suggest you keep pressing Verizon, you might get somebody who knows better. You could also check with your state's regulator, they may be able provide some helpful information.
Another approach is to not switch you phone to FiOS. Just get internet. Verizon doesn't like to do this, but you should be able to get it if you insist.
You could also port you number to a VoIP provider or Google Voice and then you'd never have to worry about changing it if you move. Assuming lifeline numbers can be ported.
Good Luck
