No residential service - can't get through to Verizon support

After a strong storm blew through the area yesterday, I could not longer receive or make calls from my landline.  Sometimes, the call will connect for a second, then drop.  Sometimes there's no dialtone.  Internet service is spotting.  I tried calling Verizon support from my mobile phone.  The computer says the lines are fine.  That is false.  When I hold for a live person, after about 10 minutes, the call disconnects.  I sent an email to Verizon but haven't heard anything back.  It is so frustrating to have my service disrupted and not be able to get in contact with anyone at Verizon.
