why can't verizon keep my current phone number when other providers say they can?

Well apparently, when the need to port out your verizon number is required, they are unable to keep your existing phone number. So much for Fios services huh?

Typically, Verizon can port in a telephone number.  Who is your current provider?  Why were you told that your number could not be ported?

I have a problem to the similar the original post.  I am currently with AT&T Callvantage which is stopping service soon and I am trying to switch to Verizon Freedom Essentials.  AT&T has said we can port our number to a new provider but Verizon is telling me they can't port in my number.  I think they are just using some automated system to determine if my number can be ported in or not.
