Porting Fios phone number from Verizon triple play

I have seen lots of info on porting to Google Voice.

We will be moving out of state and will not be using Verizon.

What other options are there?  Cheap ones

There are lots of VoIP providers at various price points.

Google Voice doesn't work like a standard telephone.  You can place and receive calls through a computer, have them forwarded to any phone number or use a smart phone app.  There is no phone jack with Google Voice.

if you want a phone jack, you'll want a VoIP service that provides a small box you keep in your home.  There are many to choose from with folks like Vonage, Oooma and NetTalk being quite popular.  Do a search for "VoIP Providers" and find the one that works for you.

All VoIP services require some type of broadband connection to be able to make and receive calls.
