I changed from FIOS phone to Digital Voice. I am not unhappy with the change, but at the time of the change, I was told that I would have all my features plus many new ones. That was not the case. I lost several features which I hope can eventually be incorporated in Digital Voice in the future.
First, on Voice Mail, there was a feature called Special Delivery. I used it all the time, and Digital Voice does not offer it. If someone left me a message on my home phone, I would be notified on my cell phone. I am not fond of the Locate Me or Simultaneous Ring features that Digital Voice offered. I tried them both, and they do not replace what I lost.
Also, I had the Priority Call feature, where I could assign a different ring to differentiate when certain people call. This as well, is not offered in Digital Voice,
I had Speed Call 30, and was not told at the time, that I would have to reprogram which I changed to Digital Voice, since the Speed Call system is different. That was ok, although it took me a while to reprogram.
I am hoping in the future that Digital Voice will bring back those features and the others that were offered in the original phone program. Thank you.....Steve
I forgot to mention Call Intercept, which I had as well. Digital Voice calls it something else, but it does not do the same as Call Intercept.
Well....none of this matters anymore. When I signed up for Digital Voice, not only was I promised that I would maintain my current features, but would gain a lot more as well, included in the price. I was also promised that if my internet goes down, the battery in the ONT would maintain my phone service.
Well....I lost my original features that I had, and in NJ, there was a major internet outage yesterday, and I lost phone for almost 4 hours. I switched back to FIOS phone today. I was able to get back the features that I lost and don't have to worry about losing internet connection.
Some people use their cell phones a lot, I don't. I prefer my landline. I am sure that Digital Voice is great for some, but I am so happy to be back with my original phone package, and the features that I like.
They tried to sell me digital voice when I upgraded to Ultimate HD, and I declined for the reasons you talked about. I didn't like that you have to dial the area code for local calls, and it's just not that reliable. I used to have IP phone with Comcast, and I had problems like the ones you mentioned. Until it can be reliable as the traditional POTS, I'm not going to get digital voice, even if my current line costs more.
I lost VCA call assistant when switching to FIOS voice. While it did not work great, when it was working, I got pop-ups on my PC when calls came in. This was very handy since I have old-school phones (and I have no plans to scrap them) in my home office with no callerid display. I would like to see this feature added back.
