And I am getting FiOS phone service and having them switch my Optimum phone number to FiOS phone.
My question is...what do *I* need to do to make this go smoothly.
I believe when signing up, they said not to contact Optimum about my phone until AFTER FiOS is installed.
OK...so what do *I* need to do after FiOS is installed? Will my phone number automatically stop working on Optimum and start working on FiOS after the FiOS installation? Or is there something *I* have to do after the FiOS is installed?
Is it only a matter of cancelling Optimum after the FiOS install?

Once you have your phone number ported to verizon the number will start ringing through as verizon (they tell you) then and only then do you cancel the service.
there must be an active number in order to port out.
